This is continued breakout mode behavior and increases the odds that the market goes sideways.

Probability still favors the bulls getting a second leg up. As I’ve been saying for the past several days, traders are wondering if the market will have to pull back first before the bulls can get a second leg up in a test of the 7,000 round number.

Even if the bears get a reversal down, there will likely be buyers somewhere between 6,800 and 6,700. This means that whatever reversal down that we get will likely be minor.

Because the daily chart has been in a trading range for the past two months, there’s increased risk that the bulls will get a deeper pullback than they want before they’re able to get the second leg up.

Overall, the bulls are hopeful that the tight trading range on the daily chart will act as a bull flag and lead to an upside breakout.

E-mini 5-minute chart and what to expect today

Today gapped down on the open and formed a bear trend with the high of bar 3.

The bears are hopeful that the bear trend will last all day. However, the reality is its consecutive sell climaxes, testing, support, and yesterday’s low. This increases the probability that today’s bear trend will evolve into a trading range.

Well, the bears are hopeful that the bear trend will last all day because the Daily chart is in a tight trading range. The odds favor buyers around the 6,800 price level.

The bulls are hopeful that they’ll get an endless pullback and test back up to the midpoint of the day’s range.

There’s still a lot of time left in the day, and if the bulls continue to add to the buying pressure, they might be able to get back to the bar 15 high.

There is plenty of time left in the day, and the bulls are hopeful that they can continue to form a large bull trend, which will lead to an endless pullback.

More likely, the market will go sideways around bar 33 and evolve into a trading range.

The bulls need to demonstrate control around the moving average. Ideally, they need to start getting bull bars completely above the moving average, and even better if they can get bull bars completely above the moving average or a series of bars.

Yesterday’s E-mini setups

Richard created the SP500 E-mini chart.

Here are reasonable stop entry setups from yesterday. Buyers of the Brooks Trading Course have access to a near 4-year library of detailed explanations of swing trade setups (see Online Course/BTC Daily Setups) linked to the Brooks Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns product.

The goal with these charts is to present an Always In perspective. If a trader was trying to be Always In or nearly Always In a position all day, and he was not currently in the market, these entries would be logical times for him to enter. These therefore are swing entries.

It is important to understand that most swing setups do not lead to swing trades. As soon as traders are disappointed, many exit. Those who exit prefer to get out with a small profit (scalp), but often have to exit with a small loss.

If the risk is too big for your account, you should wait for trades with less risk or trade an alternative market like the Micro E-mini.

Summary of today’s S&P E-mini price action

Richard created the SP500 E-mini chart.

See the weekly update for a discussion of the price action on the weekly chart and for what to expect going into next week.

Trading Room

Al Brooks and other presenters talk about the detailed E-mini price action real-time each day in the Brooks Trading Course trading room.
