Today is breaking out above 7,300 in an attempt to test up to the 7,400 round number.

Bears will see today as a potential exhaustion bar late in the rally. Exhaustion bars typically lead to sideways trading and not strong reversals. This means the best the Bears can expect is the trading range in the test back to 7,200.

Although the daily chart is getting climactic and extreme, the bears have not done enough to halt the buying pressure. This increases the odds that whatever reversal we get will likely find buyers.

At a minimum, the bears need to start getting a series of bearish bars closing on their lows. Even then, it will likely be a minor reversal that will have to form a credible Major Trend Reversal Top.

For the reasons mentioned above, there will likely be buyers on any pullback and test of the previous all-time high from early 2026. However, it’s important to realize that the Daily chart is climactic and overbought. The odds are that the market will get a pullback soon.

Overall, traders should expect the daily chart to go sideways for the next several weeks, which is the best case for the Bears.

E-mini 5-minute chart and what to expect today

Today gapped up on the open and formed a strong bull bar with bar 1, which is creating a trend from the open bull trend.

So far, the rally up to bar 15 has been good for the Bulls. However, because of the higher time frame context, today is likely to form a trending trading range day and not a strong bull trend lasting all day. This means that traders should expect sideways trading sometime soon.

A trending trading range day does not mean that the Bears will get a strong reversal down. It means that the rally is likely to have a lot of sideways trading as it continues to climb higher.

Because of the higher timeframe context, there’s an increased risk that today’s trend from the open and small pullback bull trend will likely evolve into a trading range over the next several bars.

The bears need to increase the selling pressure. At a minimum, they need to make the market go sideways to convince traders that they’re gaining control.

So far, the Bears have yet to make money below any stop order, which is a sign of weak selling pressure.

Overall, the rally up to bar 16 has been strong for the Bulls. The Bears need to increase the selling pressure if they’re going to get a reversal down, and even then, the best case for the Bears is likely a trading range and not a bear trend.

Yesterday’s E-mini setups

Richard created the SP500 E-mini chart.

Here are reasonable stop entry setups from yesterday. Buyers of the Brooks Trading Course have access to a near 4-year library of detailed explanations of swing trade setups (see Online Course/BTC Daily Setups) linked to the Brooks Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns product.

The goal with these charts is to present an Always In perspective. If a trader was trying to be Always In or nearly Always In a position all day, and he was not currently in the market, these entries would be logical times for him to enter. These therefore are swing entries.

It is important to understand that most swing setups do not lead to swing trades. As soon as traders are disappointed, many exit. Those who exit prefer to get out with a small profit (scalp), but often have to exit with a small loss.

If the risk is too big for your account, you should wait for trades with less risk or trade an alternative market like the Micro E-mini.

Summary of today’s S&P E-mini price action

Richard created the SP500 E-mini chart.

See the weekly update for a discussion of the price action on the weekly chart and for what to expect going into next week.

Trading Room

Al Brooks and other presenters talk about the detailed E-mini price action real-time each day in the Brooks Trading Course trading room.
