however, the odds favor disappointment after today’s bear breakout.

Today’s bear breakout is strong enough to increase the risk of sellers above the all-time high, with the market possibly forming a wedge top.

While the bears are hopeful that the market will start a strong sell-off, the channel up is too tight, and that will limit the downside potential for the bears.

E-mini 5-minute chart and what to expect today

The E-mini gapped down on the open and formed a bear breakout with bars 2, 3, and 4 following a large gap down, which increased the risk that if today is going to form a trend, it is likely to form a bear trend day.

Because the gap down was climactic and the market was at support, the odds were against the market getting a strong sell-off.

The market formed a triangle into bar 19, and the bears got a downside breakout with bars 20 and 21, which increased the odds of the bears getting a second leg down.

The market reached the 7,500 round number; however, by around bar 26, the channel down was tight, and therefore the first reversal up was likely to be minor by bar 40.

The sell-off is getting climactic and extreme and is testing the daily moving average, which increases the odds that today is likely to find buyers around the bar 39 low.

Realistically, sideways is more likely than the market getting a strong reversal up; however, because the market is at support on the daily chart, the downside at this point is likely limited.

This increases the odds that the next several hours will lead to sideways trading and possibly a reversal up back to the 7,500 round number at some point today.

Yesterday’s E-mini setups

Jed created the SP500 E-mini chart.

Here are reasonable stop entry setups from yesterday. If a trader was trying to be Always In or nearly Always In a position all day, and he was not currently in the market, these entries would be logical times for him to enter. These therefore are swing entries.

It is important to understand that most swing setups do not lead to swing trades. As soon as traders are disappointed, many exit. Those who exit prefer to get out with a small profit (scalp), but often have to exit with a small loss.

If the risk is too big for your account, you should wait for trades with less risk or trade an alternative market like the Micro E-mini.

Summary of today’s S&P E-mini price action

Jed created the SP500 E-mini chart.

E-mini end of day video review

Periodic end of day review videos will be moved to top of page when done.

See the weekly update for a discussion of the price action on the weekly chart and for what to expect going into next week.

Trading Room

Al Brooks and other presenters talk about the detailed E-mini price action real-time each day in the Brooks Trading Course trading room.
