Next, they want a measured move up of the range and a test of 7,000.

While a measured move up is possible, the bulls will probably be disappointed with the breakout above the October 10th high. This means there are likely sellers above, and the bears will make money selling the new all-time high.

The monthly chart closes in a couple of days, and at the moment, this month will likely be a bull bar.

This will be the sixth consecutive bull bar in a seven-bar bull microchannel.

Six consecutive bull bars on the monthly chart is extreme, and that increases the probability that we will not get a 7th bar on the monthly chart.

This means that the daily chart is likely to reverse down over the next several weeks. Because of this, the odds are that the daily chart will test back down to the October 10th close.

Overall, the odds are that there’s probably sellers somewhere above the October 10th high, and the market will test back into the range over the past couple of weeks and test back down to the October 10th close.

E-mini 5-minute chart and what to expect today

Today gapped up on the open and has gone sideways for the first 18 bars. This is similar to last Friday’s price action.

Because of the context on the daily chart, today is unlikely to form another strong bull trend bar. This means the market will likely try to close below the day’s open.

The bears are hopeful that they will have enough momentum to drive the market down to last Friday’s high.

While the gap up is good for the bulls, and a breakout above last Friday’s high, because the higher time frame context is getting extreme and overbought, there is increased risk of a reversal down sometime later today.

The first 18 bars form a contracting triangle, which is a breakout mode pattern.

Most traders should wait for a clear breakout up or down before looking to buy or sell.

At the moment, there is an increased risk that the market will test back down to the moving average and possibly try to break below it.

If the market is going to reach last Friday’s high, there’ll be plenty of time to sell once the selling pressure increases.

Until the market has a clear breakout, most traders are better off waiting and not trading inside the tight trading range.

Once the breakout forms, a trader can decide if the breakout is likely to succeed or fail.

While there is a risk of a sell-off and a test of yesterday’s high. It does not have to happen today. The market could form a trading range similar to last Friday and then gap down on Tuesday.

While a tight trading range similar to last Friday is unlikely to happen again today, traders must be open to the possibility. You must trade the chart in front of you, not what you hope will happen.

Friday’s E-mini setups

Richard created the SP500 E-mini chart – Al travelling.

Here are reasonable stop entry setups from Friday. Buyers of both the Brooks Trading Course and Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns have access to a near 4-year library of more detailed explanations of swing trade setups (see Online Course/BTC Daily Setups). Encyclopedia members get current daily charts added to Encyclopedia.

My goal with these charts is to present an Always In perspective. If a trader was trying to be Always In or nearly Always In a position all day, and he was not currently in the market, these entries would be logical times for him to enter. These therefore are swing entries.

It is important to understand that most swing setups do not lead to swing trades. As soon as traders are disappointed, many exit. Those who exit prefer to get out with a small profit (scalp), but often have to exit with a small loss.

If the risk is too big for your account, you should wait for trades with less risk or trade an alternative market like the Micro E-mini.

Summary of today’s S&P E-mini price action

Richard created the SP500 E-mini chart – Al travelling.

E-mini end of day video review

Periodic end of day review videos will be moved to top of page when done.

EURUSD Forex market analysis

EURUSD Forex daily chart

The EURUSD has gone sideways in a prolonged trading range for the past couple of months.

The July 30th downside breakout was strong enough for a 2nd leg down. Even though the Bulls broke out above the July high, the daily chart is in a trading range, so the odds still favor a test of the July 30th close.

Because of this, the odds are that we’re probably going to get a downside breakout and test of the July 30th close over the next several weeks.

This is similar to what I’ve been saying about the October 10th bear breakout bar on the daily chart of the E-mini. Even though the market broke above it, the odds are that the market will test back to its close. This is common when the market is in a trading range.

The daily chart of the EURUSD is in a trading range and is likely to continue to go sideways.
