Traders would see that as an adequate test of the important magnet.

The bulls need a strong breakout above the all-time high if they’re going to convince traders to buy above the October 29th high. If they don’t get the strong breakout with follow-through, they will need a series of bull bars closing on their highs.

Otherwise, traders will expect any breakout above the October 29th high to find sellers and test into the middle of the recent trading range around 6,900.

Without a test of the all-time high, the bears will need a clear downside breakout with follow-through breaking below the moving average if they are going to convince traders to start selling. A tight trading range is a breakout-mode market, and it’s best to assume that the probability is close to 50/50. Because of the reasons above, there’s an increased risk that if the market breaks the upside, it will become a failed breakout of the tight trading range.

E-mini 5-minute chart and what to expect today

E-mini gapped up on the open and formed a tight bowl channel up to the bar at 29 high.

While this is good for the bulls, it’s a late bull breakout on the higher time frame Globex chart (60-minute). This increased the odds of the bull trend from the open up to bar 29 failing to last all day and forming a trading range.

As a bar 36, the market has reached the moving average and is starting to get closer to the moving average. Although this is good for the bears, the bears need to do more.

The bulls have managed to keep the market above the moving average for more than 30 bars, and that’s a sign of strong buying pressure.

The bears are hopeful that today will form an endless pullback. So far, the sell-off from the high of 29 to the low of 36 is good for the bears, but the bears need to continue the tight bear channel and make the market go sideways to down. Next, the bears would want a strong downside breakout and a test of the bar 1 low.

More likely, the sell-off down to the bar 36th low is a trend line break of the type bull channel, and the market wafts test near the high of the day and forms a more credible major trend reversal.

Because the higher time frame (such as the daily chart) is inside of a trading range, traders should be open to the possibility of today getting a sell vacuum test of the bar one low before the end of the day.

Overall, the bears have not done enough with bar 36 to convince traders that the market is clearly Always In Short. This means that a trading range is more likely, and that the market will probably have to bounce.

Friday’s E-mini setups

Richard created the SP500 E-mini chart.

Here are reasonable stop entry setups from Friday. Buyers of the Brooks Trading Course have access to a near 4-year library of detailed explanations of swing trade setups (see Online Course/BTC Daily Setups) linked to the Brooks Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns product.

The goal with these charts is to present an Always In perspective. If a trader was trying to be Always In or nearly Always In a position all day, and he was not currently in the market, these entries would be logical times for him to enter. These therefore are swing entries.

It is important to understand that most swing setups do not lead to swing trades. As soon as traders are disappointed, many exit. Those who exit prefer to get out with a small profit (scalp), but often have to exit with a small loss.

If the risk is too big for your account, you should wait for trades with less risk or trade an alternative market like the Micro E-mini.

Summary of today’s S&P E-mini price action

Richard created the SP500 E-mini chart.

EURUSD Forex market analysis

EURUSD Forex daily chart

The daily chart of the EUR/USD has been in a bull channel ever since late November of last year.

The bulls managed to reach the 1.1800 round number, where the market found resistance and eventually broke to the downside, testing the 1.1700 round number.

The overall daily chart is inside a large trading range, and because of this, there’s an increased risk that the bears can get an endless pullback and a test back down to the bottom of the trading range, which is near the November low or even the July low.

Traders should continue to pay attention to the midpoint of the overall trading range that has lasted for more than six months, as this area is likely to be a magnet.

Once the market reaches the midpoint of the trading range, the market typically goes sideways. This makes the midpoint of the range the worst location to establish a position.

Most traders should wait for a clear breakout up or down and decide if the breakout is going to succeed or fail.

See the weekly update for a discussion of the price action on the weekly chart and for what to expect going into next week.

Trading Room

Al Brooks and other presenters talk about the detailed E-mini price action real-time each day in the Brooks Trading Course trading room.
