this is a credible location for the bulls to take profit.

The 7,600 round number is a likely area for the market to find resistance, which means there will likely be sellers above 7,600 betting on a pullback.

The odds are against the market staying above the moving average for many more bars.

E-mini 5-minute chart and what to expect today

The day gapped down on the open and formed a micro double bottom with bars 1 and 3; bar 3 was a strong enough reversal bar that it was a reasonable buy, betting on the early low of the day.

The bulls got a rally from the bar 3 low up to bar 9, which was good for the bulls, but it was a potential parabolic wedge at the moving average.

Because the gap down from yesterday’s bar 81 close to today’s open was a late leg after yesterday’s late sell-off, it increased the risk that the market would test back up to the bar 81 close.

The bears tried to get a reversal down with bar 11, but it was an outside bar, which lowered the probability for the bears.

Bars 11 and 12 were a strong enough bear reversal with follow-through that the odds favored a second leg down, but the bulls got a sharp reversal up on bar 13.

That increased the odds of the bulls getting a second leg up, which they did with bars 15, 16, 17, and 18.

The rally up to bar 18 was strong enough for a third leg, but at that point the market was testing the top of the trading range and yesterday’s high, which was the all-time high.

As of bar 23, the bulls were in a very dangerous location, which is what led to sideways trading until bar 45.

By bar 46, the bears are trying to get a bear breakout below the bar 38 neckline, and they want the market to sell off to 7,600 because of the location based on the higher time frames.

The risk is real that today will close below the open of the day, preventing the daily chart from creating a ninth consecutive bull bar on the Globex chart.

Overall, after bar 46, the odds favor a couple of legs down and a potential bear breakout below the bar 38 low.

Yesterday’s E-mini setups

Jed created the SP500 E-mini chart.

Here are reasonable stop entry setups from yesterday. If a trader was trying to be Always In or nearly Always In a position all day, and he was not currently in the market, these entries would be logical times for him to enter. These therefore are swing entries.

It is important to understand that most swing setups do not lead to swing trades. As soon as traders are disappointed, many exit. Those who exit prefer to get out with a small profit (scalp), but often have to exit with a small loss.

If the risk is too big for your account, you should wait for trades with less risk or trade an alternative market like the Micro E-mini.

Summary of today’s S&P E-mini price action

Jed created the SP500 E-mini chart.

E-mini end of day video review

Periodic end of day review videos will be moved to top of page when done.

See the weekly update for a discussion of the price action on the weekly chart and for what to expect going into next week.

Trading Room

Al Brooks and other presenters talk about the detailed E-mini price action real-time each day in the Brooks Trading Course trading room.
