however, for the reasons mentioned in the previous blogs, the odds are that there are buyers below willing to scale in lower.

Even if the market sells off down to the June 26 low or even the June 9 low, which is near 7,300, the reality is that there will likely be buyers in that general location, which limits the downside potential.

That is because the bulls will see any of those areas as discounted prices and an opportunity to buy at a discount.

The odds are that the market is going to go sideways and eventually rally back up to the all-time high.

The higher time frame is fairly tight, and the rally from the April low is strong and likely to get at least a brief second leg up.

The bears realistically need to halt the rally and continue to make the market go sideways.

Even if the market gets up to the all-time high, the bears need to demonstrate that they are willing to sell at a new high and prevent the bulls from getting a strong upside breakout.

At the moment, the odds are that even if the market reaches the 7,700 round number — which it likely will over the next month or two — sellers will favor a new all-time high and the market will continue its evolution into a trading range.

E-mini 5-minute chart and what to expect today

The five-minute chart gapped down on the open, and the gap was large.

Because the gap was so large and the gap down was already pretty much exceeding the average daily range, that increased the probability that the market was unlikely to form a bear trend during the U.S. session, which meant a trading range was more likely.

The bulls formed a large bull bar on bar 1, which increased the odds of a trading range open.

However, because bar 1 was such a large bull bar, the odds were against the market getting such a strong rally and measured move up off bar 1, and this meant that a trading range was more likely.

The market went sideways for the first 15 bars, and then the bears got the downside breakout.

The bears tried to get a measured move down off bar 1, but the market formed a parabolic wedge and a strong buy signal bar on bar 25.

Because of the higher-time-frame context, it was reasonable for bar 25 to become an early low of the day; it is a strong enough bull reversal bar that the odds favor at least a couple of legs up and a test back to the bar 1 low.

The rally up to bar 38 is strong enough that, although it is a parabolic wedge top, the odds are that there are buyers below scaling in lower.

This means that traders will probably look to buy around the midpoint of the rally from the bar 25 low to the bar 38 high.

Although bars 39 and 40 are good for the bears, the odds favor buyers even if the bears first get a second leg down.

Overall, the odds are that the market is probably going to test back up to the bar 39 high and then test back into the middle of the range from the bar 1 low to the bar 3 high.

Yesterday’s E-mini setups

Jed created the SP500 E-mini chart.

Here are reasonable stop entry setups from yesterday. If a trader was trying to be Always In or nearly Always In a position all day, and he was not currently in the market, these entries would be logical times for him to enter. These therefore are swing entries.

It is important to understand that most swing setups do not lead to swing trades. As soon as traders are disappointed, many exit. Those who exit prefer to get out with a small profit (scalp), but often have to exit with a small loss.

If the risk is too big for your account, you should wait for trades with less risk or trade an alternative market like the Micro E-mini.

Summary of today’s S&P E-mini price action

Jed created the SP500 E-mini chart.

E-mini end of day video review

Periodic end of day review videos will be moved to top of page when done.

See the weekly update for a discussion of the price action on the weekly chart and for what to expect going into next week.

Trading Room

Al Brooks and other presenters talk about the detailed E-mini price action real-time each day in the Brooks Trading Course trading room.
