Dear All,
From today, March 1, 2023, we are retiring the Daily Setups charts issued each day.
In its place we will have the new slides that Al creates each day for the Encyclopedia. These slides will be in a new presentation - available to Encyclopedia members - that will be refreshed each month. The BTC Members Daily Setups copy updating will stop next month, with the March 31 slide being the last. Near 4 years of Daily Setups charts will remain available online to all BTC and Encyclopedia members.
So, for Encyclopedia members, new slides will be available from today until March 31. At that point, the Encyclopedia will be updated to include all March slides. We then start over on Monday April 3 with April's new slides (removing March slides from presentation). Hope this makes sense. 🙂
We also plan to add end of day video reviews to expand on E slides and will inform everyone later when this service starts.
I will be issuing a survey as soon as possible on this and other services for your feedback on what services you would like to see.
It appears that in this new approach, multiple slides are produced for each day, whereas previously it was essentially the one master slide.
Given this, at the end of 6 weeks to two months, this will result in a very lengthy slide progression. As such, it would be helpful to have the same accordion effect as used on subheadings within the encyclopedia.
A couple other questions:
Has a single, "master" or summary slide that concludes each day's observations into a single slide been considered? This is basically the old approach to daily set-ups - but that wrap-up is something I personally find useful.
Secondly, the old approach included indications of good swing entries. This has also been very useful as a point of comparison for my entries and / or chart markup. I'd really encourage you guys to carry that convention forward, as it is very useful for those of us who are still new to BPA. This may be most appropriate for the summary slide mentioned above, since swing entries are not a convention within the encyclopedia itself.
Thanks
I agree with this. Lot of slide real estate is wasted to explain concepts that a single Master slide or two would do with Swing setups shown with boxes.
My apologies in advance if the reason was explained before, but not clear of what we are trying to solve with this new approach? Thanks!
I agree that the blue boxes are very helpful to me as a beginner. When I analyze the chart myself, my primary goal is to identify where Al would have put the blue box. It's very unfortunate to lose this simple but very valuable feature. It was not clear in the poll that voting for a video meant losing the blue boxes.

I have seen another reference in this thread regarding a poll...When and where was this poll posted? I never came across a poll for this! Don't wanna miss any future polls.
It was part of a weekend mailing list message some time ago. 80/20 in favor of seeing End of Day videos but plenty saying they would still like both!

Oh, I am subscribed to it, but rarely read it, I use it more like an alert to come to this site and read the blog 🙂
In future you might consider posting the poll on the site itself, there might be more people like me, although I will try to read those emails from now on.

Just a request, currently the new slides are available for a whole month for us to review.
From what I understand, when what you have mentioned starts being implemented the slide for the last day of the month would only be available for one day and then would get included in the ocean that our encyclopedia is 🙂
I can think of 2 ways that would make it a little better for us, because otherwise if one misses viewing the last day's slide on that one day, it is practically lost.
1. Let the last day's(or last week's) slide(s) be up for a day or two in the new month.
Or
2. Have two sections (like currently we have 12 sections for Daily Setups) one with slides of the current month, and one with slides of the previous month.
Thanks
Good point Shubh,
Yes, I did give this some thought after posting! Maybe best to have a 6 week set rolling over. So can populate PPT from March 1 to mid April, then drop March. Would that work Ok? This should be better than having 2 presentation as easier to manage.
Or could have 2 months rolling?
Thoughts?

I feel 6 weeks or 2 months rolling both would be fine and would serve the purpose. If either of the 2 is easier to implement or maintain then that can be the way to go..
Ok, good. Will decide which is most effective time-wise later.
One more quick question. Tomorrow, I intend to place march 2 slides at top, so no need to click down to latest slides. Saves trouble as I do sometimes forget to change button link! Does reverse ordering work for you?
Not certain I’m understanding this. Taking Friday, March 3, as an example:
The first slide represents comments on the overall day. Comparable slides will no longer appear after this month’s end. The following slides are new encyclopedia entries based on the day’s trading and those will continue to be created on a daily basis.
Is this correct?
Hi Stephen, sorry for late reply.
Yes, what you say is about right.
The first slide is what goes into the daily blog report and is a summary, albeit simplified a little, containing the main points form all other slides. This slide will not be put into "Daily Setups" presentations which have been frozen end Feb.
I will extend the 'summary + new E slides' for 2 weeks or so into following month, to give an overlap so you will not have to worry about having to catch them every day. So a rolling 6 weeks of slides.
Hope that is clear.
Maybe this would be a good opportunity to reconsider the software you're using to house and retrieve the slides. So much outstanding image annotation software has been developed since Al has started this project and the database is growing so quickly that an alphabetically segmented approach seems not only antiquated but a hindrance to effective usage of this wonderful material. I bet a call to the membership base would surface a programmer with the requisite knowledge who would be excited about contributing ideas on this.
With the correct software, slide retrieval could be sliced and diced in so many informative ways and could utilize the notes typed on the slides, possibly without any need for re-entry of the existing annotations.
Just a quick Google search pulls up a link to 13 Best Image Annotation Tools of 2023 [Reviewed].
This article might be a start for deciding whether this is worth pursuing.
Agreed Stephen.
I have already suggested to Al we need to review/overhaul the Encyclopedia presentation. When first created, the image database I was hoping to use was just not up to it, requiring too much server resources and far too much manual work to simply add slides.
I will follow up. Fingers crossed.
I am not a subscriber of the encyclopaedia, but I have been considering paying for it.
With everyone confused with the proposed changes, it seems the best thing to do would be a video "user guide" covering the new changes. Or even a Zoom call that can be recorded for future buyers.
One key confusion is that the Encyclopedia itself has not changed at all.
It is the Daily Setups chart where changes have been made, with adding daily Encyclopedia slides in its place. Currently still releasing the simplified setups chart for daily blog post. An increase in workload despite attempt to reduce same. 🙁
A video on "How to Use Encyclopedia" would be good sometime in future, but not needed to explain changes hopefully, but may come to that. 🙂
Is there any chance we can go back to having Encyclopedia updates the old fashioned way?
Earlier we used to get the updates on the encyclopedia webpage/section at the start of a month for the previous month.
Why I am preferring the old method is because the slides were not grouped together as per days, but were grouped together as per the categories of patterns they fell into, they were grouped exactly as they would be added to the encyclopedia. I found that system easier to assimilate new examples of the patterns.
Also, the first slide (with all the patterns marked up) gets repeated, once on the blog post and once on the encyclopedia updates on the daily setups page. The old way it will only need to be on the blog post.
It might also lessen the confusion people are having for what all has changed. This new system of categorizing the encyclopedia is making people feel as if something has changed with the encyclopedia too.
I personally would prefer that we go back to having encyclopedia updates like we used to, and leaving the daily Set Ups page on the site as an archive of the daily setups for past 4 years.
I second this.
I'll add that to institute wholesale change to an important tool (the EOD summary) with no consultation with its actual users is a mistake.
Enough pushback from the community has emerged that IMHO this should be rethought.
Particularly, replacing the EOD summary with a video just makes no sense.
Prioritizing the value of the video format on a public marketing channel like YouTube over something the community doesn't want to go away is difficult to understand.
The difference in format is a key issue that I can only assume has not been fully considered.
The videos are great; Brad's bar x bar analysis is helpful, but it is not a replacement for the EOD summary in slide format.
With the latter, we can go back at any time, and on our time, and make comparisons to our own charts. This is entirely different that sitting through a 15-20 minute long, bar x bar analysis. Furthermore, the video format provides very different information than the slide, and the two used in very different ways.
I strongly suggest that how this change has been implemented be examined. At the very least, you need to view the video as an adjunct to the EOD summary, not as a replacement.
Well, as said on another comment here a recent survey (to all mailing list members) BEFORE any change made told us 80% in favor of video over chart.
Videos are planned to be 5-6 minutes but needs practice. Perhaps using the blog chart with its markup for video would be better than talking through bar-by-bar?
Yes, agree the original Daily Setups are a great resource, but with near 4 years of such charts in the archive I am sure 90% of days going forward are well covered already as far as setups to expect, right? So why keep repeating the same every day? Today is already a small pullback bull trend day so far, now transitioning to possible minor or major reversal, or trading range. Unique? Not at all. 🙂
>>One key confusion is that the Encyclopedia itself has not changed at all.<<
Well, I do keep saying no change on Encyclopedia month end updates. But keeping the "Latest Slides" file as well as the daily slides, as now, is certainly overkill for most. I did intend to keep "Latest Slides" for the foreseeable future, despite the added workload. 🙁
With dropping detailed Daily Setups chart, Al thought traders would like to see new E slides each day. But again, even more work, so happy to drop them if not useful.
I agree including the blog chart with current Daily Slides does not help much, given the duplication.
Do you think a short survey would help? So many comments scattered here and difficult to keep track as this Q&A format is not really suitable. Yet another thing I wanted to follow up and change to standard forum style! 🙁

Hi Richard,
If possible, please post the survey on this site because I don't follow anything else anywhere else.
I don't know about the workload and it is unreasonable for me to expect Al to push his limits as he has already done more than enough for us to be successful traders.
That being said, I think both Encyclopedia and Daily setups are invaluable resources and they made me the trader that I am today. Albeit, the encyclopedia is huge and the daily setups are much easier to go through and provide a lot of information at once place.
However, I don't think the EOD video review adds much value to me, no disrespect meant to Brad. At the EOD, I can pretty much see what Brad is describing on the chart. However, Al's markups in any form as they come - be it daily setups or E slides somehow end up adding tremendous value.
We keep asking you and Al for things. If you're looking for volunteers, I can help you out with some stuff if you want. I have been around for some time and I think you will find some others too who would be glad to help.
