The news completely passed me by until now... apparently CME want to become an FCM in their own exchange!!!
I'm not quite sure how that'll work, but it effectively means you could clear directly with them and need not go via Tradestation, Ninja, IB etc.

The CME has said they have no plans to actually compete with the clearing firms and the application to become an FCM is being done purely as a "what if" measure. I suspect it was in response to efforts by the now defunct FTX to compete with the CME.
