I believe what al is saying is that you need a setup of comparable magnitude to the time frame, a small set up will net a small move and not worth doing.
I think Al means that beginners are better off looking at bigger patterns (thus bigger setups, such as flags and MTR's) on a chart because those offer bigger rewards which are necessary if you start out. But more importantly, I think as a trader you need to understand what bulls and bears are doing on a bar-by-bar basis, and what bulls and bears are doing is linked to a setup and a signal. And based on that setup and signal you estimate probability and R/R and either take the trade or not.
