Hi, I would like to know how do you handle emotions in the learning process. This is my third year studying and practicing almost every day and I have serious trouble with frustration and anger.
Most days it feels like the market is joking with me and doing the opposite of what I expect, and when I get angry because of bad trades it gets worse and I make more bad decisions.
How do you think I can control this?
Hi, Have you read books about the psychology of trading? Best losers win, Trading in the zone , The inner game of tennis ( if you replace the word tennis with trading it probably becomes the best book about the psychology of trading).
Anger and frustration are absolutely normal and acknowledging why your brain reacts like that and makes you feel that way is the first essential step to learn how to control them and avoid bad decisions.
Also Mastering the Mental Game of Trading by Steven Goldstein. Here's where I learned that you have to have a reset period after a losing trade. A few years ago I implimented a rule where after a loss I will not take another trade for at least 20-25 minutes (4-5 bars). I don't care how perfect the setup is I'm passing it. This rule saves severe account damage by curtailing revenge trading and allows me to go through a reset process.
