I hear stories of people going at it hard all day every day, but I don't have enough brain power to study for hours and hours on end, so I'm wondering what's "normal" for a typical trading student. I have to micro dose topics, pause and reflect, and take breaks all together. Just curious...
12 years in here. In my first 3-4 years, yes I essentially married trading. I was putting in 12 hour days most of the time. From going through the entire video course multiple times to watching / trading the charts paper money and live and thinking about the Brooks principles to watching trading price action Youtube videos, reading the Brooks books and other trading books and going to a Bi-weekly local study group here in Tampa where we discussed Brooks PA.
You are essentially the CEO of a startup. CEO's of startups have to put in the long hours in the first years to make it. I've seen too many people come into it doing it as a side hustle to their 9-5 job putting in 2-3 hours here and there and they rarely make it or if they do it takes them a decade or more. More often than not they leave. My feeling is you have to put in the long days in the early years. When I began, I told myself oh give me 4-6 months and I'll be there. Little did I know it would take me 4 1/2 years of long days. These days I probably do 4 hours a week prep work / continuing education other than actual trading hours so a lot less than the early years.
